The Carshalton Athletic Football Academy is a full time sports and educational program based at Glenthorne School. The main aim of the Academy is to enable promising young football players (16-18yrs) to continue with further education whilst striving to become a semi-pro or professional football player. We are able to offer a wide range of A levels as well as BTEC qualifications – many more than is typical in most Academies and Because a career in sport is a risky business we try to ensure that every student finsihes the scheme with the best academic grades possible. Successful applicants typically join the first year of the academy in the school term directly following GCSE exams (year 12). The Academy program runs for a two year period – during this time students will spend about half the week studying for A Level or BTEC qualifications and the other half participating in the football development program. Each student will receive approximately 6-9 hours per week in active training. |

Applying |
Registration process |
|||
|
Students can apply to register for the academy from as early as the age of fifteen (Year 10), but more usually students will apply when they are in their GCSE year (year 11). The scheme is heavily oversubscribed, so we recommend registering your interest (in confidence) at the earliest possible time, ideally during year 10 or during September, October or November of year 11 at the latest. |
Firstly – get more information about the academy at the earliest opportunity by calling Ian Hazel or sending him an email. Tell Ian a bit about your football experience and future ambitions. Ian will answer any questions that you may have and give you all the information that you need to decide whether you would like to take things further. You may want to book up a trial or have a look around the Academy and club, or watch a few academy fixtures to get an idea of how things are run. |
