CAFC Women vs Bromley FC – Preview

Carshalton Athletic Women will face Bromley FC in their first pre-season match, taking place away on Wednesday 16 July.

Robins Review

Carshalton Athletic Women wrapped up their Surrey Premier Division campaign in style with a commanding 2–0 win over league champions Farnham Town. The result secured a second-place finish for the Robins, ending the season on 40 points. Unfortunately, it wasn’t quite enough to claim automatic promotion, which went to Farnham Town, who topped the table with 42 points and a game still in hand.

Despite narrowly missing out on promotion, Carshalton enjoyed a historic season under new manager Aaron Lamont. The highlight came with a 4–1 victory over Croydon FC at Meadowbank Football Ground, where the team lifted the Surrey Divisional Cup, marking silverware in Lamont’s first season in charge.

The club will remain in Tier 7 for the 2025–26 season, but preparations are already well underway. Lamont has been actively organising showcase matches to strengthen the squad, retain key players such as Georgie Edwards, Heather Eade and Evie Nebbitt, and build momentum for another promotion push.

Bromley FC Women

Bromley FC Women, known as The Ravens, currently play in Tier 6 of the women’s football pyramid, competing in Division 1 North of the London & South East Regional Women’s League (L&SERWFL). In the 2024/25 season, Bromley delivered another strong campaign, finishing runners-up with 56 points, seven behind champions Brentford. Over 22 matches, they recorded 18 wins, 2 draws, and just 2 defeats, with a remarkable goal difference of +74.

Their only defeats during the season came in a 4–2 league loss to Brentford and a 4–0 defeat to Dartford in the second round of the L&SERWFL League Cup. They also exited the Kent FA Cup following a narrow 5–4 penalty shootout loss to Dartford.

This successful season followed an impressive 2023/24 campaign, where Bromley finished second in Division 1 South, then their highest-ever finish in the women’s football pyramid. That year, they narrowly missed out on the title to Newhaven, ending just two points behind. The Ravens suffered only two defeats and a single draw that season; had they won their drawn fixture away to 10th-placed Bexhill United, they would have been crowned champions on goal difference.

Following the relegation of Aylesford and Crawley AFC from the L&SERWFL Premier Division at the end of 2023/24, Bromley were moved laterally from Division 1 South to Division 1 North. This shift further strengthened what was already a highly competitive division.

As they look ahead, Bromley will aim to build on back-to-back runner-up finishes and continue pushing for promotion.

Pre-Match Analysis

Bromley were a formidable force in the 2024–25 season, scoring an impressive 97 goals—the second-highest tally in the division, behind only champions Brentford with 131. Defensively, they were equally strong, conceding just 23 goals, again second only to Brentford’s 17.

At home, Bromley were unbeatable. They went the entire season without a single loss on home soil, winning 10 matches and drawing one. Even more remarkably, they scored 57 goals at home while conceding just once, highlighting both their attacking prowess and defensive discipline.

Key Player

Leen Winner Ekwo began the 2024–25 campaign with A.F.C Whyteleafe but finished it in Bromley colours, making an immediate and devastating impact. Across just 20 starts, she netted an incredible 45 goals, establishing herself as one of the most prolific forwards in the division.

The Gaffer

Dean Davenport brings 11 years of managerial experience at Crystal Palace Women to Bromley FC Women, where he achieved four promotions and guided the team into the Championship. In 2022, he led the Eagles to their highest-ever finish—joint 3rd place in the league.

Joining him as Head Coach is James Marrs, a seasoned coach who has worked across Tier Two sides such as Brighton & Hove Albion Women, Charlton Athletic Women, and, notably, alongside Davenport for three seasons at Crystal Palace

Mick Strain completes the backroom staff as Goalkeeper Coach, with over ten years of specialised experience coaching goalkeepers at clubs including Charlton Athletic Women, London City Lionesses, and Crystal Palace Women.
