CAFC Women vs Manorcroft United – Preview
Following their recent defeat to Dorking Wanderers U23, Carshalton Athletic Women will be eager to bounce back with a strong performance as they host newly-promoted Manorcroft United on Sunday at Colston Avenue.
Manorcroft United FC
Manorcroft United enter the Surrey Premier Division this season after a dominant campaign in Surrey Division 1 North, where they were crowned champions with a perfect record – 12 wins from 12 games. Their attacking firepower was clear, scoring 69 goals (an average of nearly six per match), while conceding just 14.
The two teams first met on the opening day of the season, when Carshalton secured a 9–0 away victory. Since then, Manorcroft have played three more league games: a 2–0 win away at Croydon, a home defeat to Dorking Wanderers U23, and an entertaining 3–3 draw against Walton & Hersham, in which they came from behind to claim a point.
Carshalton Athletic
Carshalton kicked off their league campaign with three straight wins: the 9–0 victory at Manorcroft, a narrow 3-2 home win over Dorking Wanderers U23, and a 4–1 comeback away win at Merstham.
However, the Robins have stumbled in their last two outings. They fell 3–0 at home to Sutton United First Team in the Isthmian League Cup (a side playing two tiers above), followed by a narrow league defeat to Dorking Wanderers U23 last weekend. It was a below-par performance, and manager Aaron Lamont will be determined to get his side back on track when Manorcroft visit Colston Avenue.
Team News
Amelia Kimble made her debut for the Robins last weekend, starting the match against Dorking Wanderers. She’ll be hoping to build on that with more minutes on Sunday as she continues to integrate into Lamont’s squad.
Dee Badley began Sunday’s match on the bench as a precaution following illness, but made a notable impact after coming on. Lamont will be hoping she’s back to full fitness ahead of the Manorcroft clash.
One notable change in the squad is the departure of the experienced Sarah Chapman, who has joined Sutton United Reserves. She made an immediate impact, scoring in their 3–1 win over Croydon FC on Sunday.
Head to Head
The two sides first met in a friendly back in May, as Carshalton prepared for their league finale against Farnham Town and the Surrey Divisional Cup Final versus Croydon FC. In front of a lively Colston Avenue crowd, Manorcroft struck first and led 1–0 at half-time. But Carshalton responded strongly after the break – Honey Dulley netting twice before Georgie Edwards sealed a 3–1 comeback win.
Their first competitive meeting came in September, following Manorcroft’s promotion. That match saw drama early on, with Carshalton reduced to 10 players after goalkeeper Beth Yarrow was controversially sent off for dissent. Georgie Edwards took over in goal and made a crucial first-half penalty save. Despite the setback, Carshalton controlled the second half and ran out 9–0 winners, with goals from McCrea (3), Eade (2), Sargent, Badley, Bell, and Chapman.
Pre-Match Analysis
With four points from their first four league games, it’s been a mixed start for Manorcroft as they adjust to life in the seventh tier. They’ll be out for revenge following that opening-day loss and will look to pose a much sterner test this time around.
For Carshalton, the defeat to Dorking Wanderers U23 was a setback, and they’ll be keen to return to winning ways as they aim to maintain momentum in their title challenge. A strong start and a focused performance will be key if they’re to get the job done at Colston Avenue on Sunday.
