CAFC Women vs Oxted & District – Preview
Following Sunday’s win over Walton & Hersham, the Robins will be looking to maintain their momentum with a trip to Oxted & District FC up next.
Oxted & District
After a close battle with Ash United, Oxted & District were crowned champions of the Surrey Division 1 South last season, going the entire campaign unbeaten. They won 14 and drew 3 of their 17 league games to secure promotion to the Surrey Premier Division.
With Carshalton, Dorking Wanderers U23s, and Sutton Reserves breaking away at the top of the division, Oxted & District look set to be the best of the rest. They’ve made a solid start, collecting 7 points from their first 4 games.
Their campaign began with a tough 4–0 defeat away to Dorking U23s, but they responded strongly – winning 4–0 at Epsom & Ewell before winning 6–5 against Merstham in a thrilling encounter at Master Park. Last Sunday, they played out a 2–2 draw at Chessington & Hook. Their results so far suggest they’ve adapted well to life at a higher level as they settle into their new division.
Carshalton Athletic
After victories over Manorcroft United and Walton & Hersham, the Robins sit top of the Surrey Premier Division with 18 points from 7 games. However, Sutton Reserves and Dorking Wanderers U23s also recorded convincing wins on Sunday to keep the pressure on.
Sutton trail Carshalton only on goal difference but have played one game fewer, while Dorking are 3 points behind with a game in hand. With the top sides so tightly packed in the early stages, there’s no room for slip-ups – something Aaron Lamont will be emphasising to his players this week ahead of a tough test against Oxted.
Team News
Following their hat-tricks on Sunday, Heather Eade and Dee Badley lead the Surrey Premier Division goalscoring charts with 11 goals each, while Taylor McCrea is close behind on 9.
Aaron Lamont’s side boasts plenty of attacking firepower – a key factor in their pursuit of both the league title and cup success in the Surrey Divisional Cup and Capital Intermediate Cup.
Goal difference could also prove decisive if teams are level on points, so the front line’s recent form has been a major boost, with Carshalton currently holding the best goal difference in the division.
Pre-Match Analysis
Sunday’s clash with Oxted & District is the Robins’ final league fixture for a few weeks, with Surrey Divisional Cup and Capital Intermediate Cup ties to follow. Both sides will be eager to head into the break on a high and build momentum for the upcoming cup fixtures.
Despite being newly promoted, Oxted & District have impressed and should not be underestimated – especially at home. They play on a grass surface, whereas Carshalton are more accustomed to the 3G pitch at Colston Avenue, which could pose a challenge if the Robins struggle to impose their usual passing style.
With Oxted scoring 12 goals in their last 3 matches and Carshalton already netting 46 league goals this season, Sunday’s game promises to be an entertaining encounter.
