CAFC Women vs AFC Wimbledon XI – Report
Carshalton Athletic Women put in a strong and resilient performance against a mixed AFC Wimbledon XI, made up of both U18s and first-team players. Despite the final 3-0 scoreline in favour of the visitors, the Robins gave a spirited account of themselves, especially during a tightly contested first half.
The game began with The Robins setting a solid defensive shape and pressing high when the opportunity presented itself. Both teams looked to establish control early on, with Carshalton’s back line staying composed under pressure and showing good organisation. Goalkeeper Zoe McNulty made a number of confident claims and sharp saves to keep the visitors at bay.

The Robins best chances came from set pieces, with two corners in the first half causing real concern in the AFC Wimbledon box. On both occasions, the Robins managed to get a header on target, but were denied by last-ditch defending or safe hands from the opposition keeper. The Robins’ wingers Bianca & Riley also posed a threat, breaking down the flanks with pace and purpose, although that final ball or finish just eluded them.
The first half ended goalless, a testament to the Robins’ discipline and defensive structure.
In the second half, the intensity and fitness of the AFC Wimbledon XI began to show. The visitors upped the tempo, taking advantage of tired legs and slight lapses in concentration. Three goals came in quick succession midway through the second half, with clinical finishes that punished Carshalton’s momentary switches off in defence.
Despite going behind, The Robins didn’t give up and continued to battle hard until the final whistle. There were moments of promise going forward, with good build-up play through the midfield and continued efforts to find the breakthrough. However, a lack of clinical edge in front of goal ultimately left Carshalton scoreless.
Overall, it was a match full of positives for Carshalton Athletic. Holding a talented AFC Wimbledon side to a goalless first half showed the quality and work ethic within the squad. The Robins will look to build on this performance, sharpening their attacking edge and continuing to grow in fitness and confidence ahead of the new season.
