Peter Clews – The True Gentlemen Robin
It is with much sadness that the club has to share the sad news of the passing of Peter Clews.
Peter was one of the club’s longest serving fans. Peter first began supporting in 1948 following in his fathers footsteps (William Clews) who was likely one of Carshalton Athletics’ very first fans.
In the 77 years since his very first Carshalton Athletic match Peter has not only been an immense help to the club in his DIY and building work, but has also been a dedicated Vice President, representing the club on numerous occasions.
Club Chairman Paul Dipre said “Peter was a true gentleman and a very kind man, his first instinct was always to offer help and he gave his full, unconditional support to the club. I know that I and many others at Colston Avenue will miss Peter. We are currently in discussions with Peter’s family how Peter can best be remembered at Colston Avenue and will announce when decided”
Jamie, Peter’s son, and Lewis, Peter’s grandson now carries the Clews name forward into the next chapter of Carshalton Athletic history.
Peter’s funeral is on the 8th of April at 1.20 at Morden Crematorium (Garth Road) and the wake will be at the Robins Nest at 2.30pm.
