Brightlingsea make the long trip to Colston Avenue

Brightlingsea Regent are Carshalton Athletic’s opponents at Colston Avenue on Saturday 6 November (3pm kick off).

Located close to the Essex/Suffolk border at one of the further outposts in the Isthmian League Premier Division, the Regent will be hoping to end a six game losing streak, including five straight in the league. The poor run has left them currently in 18th position in the league, having shipped 32 goals, the third worst in the division. Their most recent defeat, however, came in midweek in a 1-0 reversal at the hands of Staines Town from the Isthmian League Division 1 South Central in the FA Trophy.

Relative newbies on the non-league scene, Brightlingsea Regent was only formed in 2005 by the amalgamation of Brightlingsea United and Regents Park Rangers.

Since then, the Robins have only met them three times and will be looking to preserve a 100% record. Due to COVID-related season curtailments, the last time the two teams met was in the 2019-20 season when Carshalton ran out 2-0 winners at Colston Avenue with goals from Ricky Korboa and Jerry Amoo.

In the current season though, Carshalton remain marooned in mid-table after a 1-0 loss in midweek at Lewes. In a game of few chances, the Robins were made to pay for not converting any of those they did create when the Rooks’ Michael Klass fired home from 25 yards.

Chris Sessegnon may be doubtful for Saturday’s game after limping off midway through the second half of that game.
