Team news

Goalkeeper Patrick Ohman was handed a debut as Billy Bishop battles with a small hand injury. Bobby Price was only fit enough to be included on the bench, so Daniel Pappoe returned to also skipper the side. Omar Koroma and Michael Onovwigun replaced Jacob Mendy and Michael Aziaya.

Both sides set about the game with gusto in the crisp, yet sunny, November conditions but it was Brightlingsea Regent that carved out the first decent chance on 10 minutes.

Harvey Hodd took aim from 20 yards but Ohman endeared himself to the travelling fans by getting down and palming the ball round his left-hand post.

We dealt with the resultant corner but Regent came again two minutes later, this time top scorer Billy Hunt flashing a shot wide of the far post with Ohman sprawling.

But we broke the deadlock on 20 minutes as Tommy Bradford swapped passes with Ricky Korboa before bursting between the home centre backs. He coolly slotted past James Bradbrook from 15 yards for his second goal of the season and his 96th in Robins colours.

That settled us down and we began to inhibit our hosts when they tried to get forward, although our final pass or cross at the other end weren't quite on-point as the bobbly pitch limited our normal passing play.

We won a corner on 37 minutes and, although the first delivery was cleared, Korboa found Jerson dos Santos. Our forward spun 20 yards from goal and unleashed a shot but Bradbrook got right behind it.

Korboa then played a neat one-two with Koroma before cutting into the Regent area, but his delayed shot was eventually deflected up and the grateful arms of Bradbrook.

The home side had a good opportunity to level just before the break when Onovwigun was harshly judged to have fouled Hodd 20 yards from our goal. Jordan Barnett stepped up but his free kick dipped over the top of Ohman's crossbar.

HALF-TIME: 0 - 1

The high tempo from the first-half carried over and our hosts had the first glimpse of goal again, this time just four minutes in.

Hodd did well to take a pass and he glided past two opponents to get into our box, but thankfully his next touch was heavy and the ball ran out of play.

We extended our lead on 56 minutes and it came via some good old-fashioned 'route one' football - Peter Adeniyi flicked on an Ohman goal kick and dos Santos cushioned the ball past Josh Gould before guiding a shot beyond Bradbrook. That was our top scorer's third goal in two games.

Rather than drop their heads, Brightlingsea kept trying to get forward and the game began to swing from end-to-end - Adeniyi with a 20 yard effort just wide the closest either side came to scoring however.

Mendy and Ola Sogbanmu were introduced and the former was quickly into the action - he got onto a weighed pass from Adeniyi down the left before getting  got into a good crossing position. His firm ball across almost caught Bradbrook unawares but the keeper managed to punch the ball away from virtually on his own line.

The home side huffed and puffed until the final whistle but we managed to keep a rare clean sheet to go with our three points, while Jordan Cheadle forced a save out fof Bradbrook with a late free kick. Curiosuly, Brightlingsea are still to win a home league game so far this season.
