Carshalton Athletic will look to build on consecutive wins against promotion chasers Worthing and Kingstonian when they travel to face Bowers and Pitsea on Saturday 15th January (3pm kick off) at the Len Salmon Stadium in Essex.
After the Kingstonian game, first team coach Keith Boanas said he doesn’t anticipate the players allowing their standards to drop again, as has happened at times previously.
This will be only the third time that the Robins and Bowers and Pitsea have ever met. The COVID pandemic has restricted meetings since the Bowers won the Isthmian League North in 2018-19, having been in the Essex Senior League as recently as the 2015-16 season.
The form book to date doesn’t suggest a goalfest. The two teams ground out a 0-0 draw at Colston Avenue earlier in the season while a Jordan Cheadle special settled the only previous encounter between the two in February 2020.
The Bowers currently lie 18th in the Isthmian League Premier Division with 22 points from 22 games. In their most recent game on Tuesday night, they beat Chelmsford City on penalties in the Essex Senior Cup after leading scorer, Lewis Manor, brought the scores level at 2-2 in the last minute. Before that, they had lost their last four league games, including most recently, a 2-0 defeat away at Wingate and Finchley.
However, they have shown in cup competitions in particular that they’re more than capable of competing against higher placed teams, having reached the first round proper of the FA Cup for the first time in the club’s history this season, before bowing out 1-0 to League One Lincoln City. En route, they beat Bishops Stortford, Hornchurch and National League Aldershot Town.
