Expect relegation strugglers East Thurrock to put up a fight

Carshalton Athletic travel to face current Isthmian League Premier Division bottom side East Thurrock on Saturday 26th February (3pm kick off).

Three points seem almost essential for the Robins if they are going to maintain pressure on the playoff contenders above them. A 2-0 home win last weekend against Wingate and Finchley left Carshalton eight points outside the playoff berths in ninth place.

In the only other league game to survive last Saturday’s bad weather, East Thurrock went down 6-0 to the current form team, Hornchurch, leaving them propping up the division with 18 points from 28 games.

So both teams have strong, if differing, motivations for maximum points.

On Tuesday night, East Thurrock went out of the Velocity Trophy losing on penalties to Barking after a 1-1 draw at 90 minutes. Meanwhile Carshalton progressed in the same competition with a 4-2 win over Corinthian on Monday but were spared a third game in a week when Thursday’s scheduled Surrey Senior Cup tie against Corinthian Casuals was postponed.

When the Rocks and Robins met at Colston Avenue in October, Carshalton won 4-1 thanks to a three goal burst in five second half minutes. However, only four of the East Thurrock team that turned out in that game were involved against Hornchurch.
