It's been 22 years since Carshalton Athletic's last match in the proper rounds of the FA Cup and the excitement is continuing to build around Colston Avenue.
Ahead of the clash against National North club Boston United, James Barrett-Sterling caught up with defender Bobby Price to get his views on a historic day for the club:
JB-S: What’s the vibe been like amongst the squad this week? BP: We are looking forward to this match of course, but we’re approaching it as we would any other game. We’ve trained well and are trying not to let the fact its ‘the FA Cup first round’ distract us too much.
JB-S: What kind of challenge should we expect from Boston United on Saturday? BP: I don’t know too much about them, but they are a league above us so they’ll probably be fitter and quite physical. We’ll just concentrate on our own game and we'll aim to cause another upset.
JB-S: We’ve played several formations this season – how has that been for someone who predominately plays at right back? BP: Certain aspects are good, like I can have license to push on and help create or score more goals than usual, though it involves a lot more running sometimes! It’s fairly easy for us to adapt to different formations however, we have good enough players to chop and change things quickly.
JB-S: You’ve been a part of the first-team squad for over five years now, along with Tommy Bradford, Paris Hamilton-Downes and Ricky Korboa, so what does reaching this round of the FA Cup mean to you? BP: At the start of every season we’d say let’s get a good run in the FA Cup, but it hasn’t happened for us until now. As a kid I watched the FA Cup and to now be in the first round proper is so exciting. We’ve all got friends and family coming down to watch and we’ll give it a real go trying to get another win.
JB-S: And of course yourself and Ricky scored the goals to knock out Dagenham and Redbridge in the last round, that certainly highlighted the faith the club has nurturing its young players! BP: Yeah, the club has been great to us and occasions like this go towards paying back some of that faith. Ricky is always a favourite to score, but if I can keep chipping in then I will!
