It was honours even as currently unbeaten Bognor Regis Town withstood our late onslaught, writes James Barrett-Sterling.
Bobby Price made his return from injury to start, while Daniel Pappoe and Michael Onovwigun were handed their debuts after joining on loan from Dulwich Hamlet during the week.
The game started evenly but the first chance fell to us as Mike Dixon saw a shot deflected just wide, while Doug Tuck then failed to put the finishing touch to a free-kick routine at the other end.
The ball continued to move back and forth but we broke the deadlock on 27 minutes as Jordan Cheadle blasted home his first of the season from 25 yards.
We then lost Rio Davidson-Phipps to injury so Tommy Bradford made an early appearance from the subs bench.
But we didn't take advantage our going ahead and, after Keaten Wood smashed a volley over our bar from a good position inside our area, Jimmy Muitt restored parity just before the half-time whistle.
HALF-TIME: 1 - 1
Town stormed out the blocks after the break but, thankfully, we cleared a goalbound effort away from an empty net and Harvey Whyte had an effort disallowed for offside just before the hour mark.
Then it was our turn to create some chances - Bradford was unfortunate to see an 18 yard drive fizz just the wrong side of the far post, then he was millimetres away from turning in a Dixon shot from close range.
We had a good spell of pressure as the likes of Bradford, fellow sub Raheem Sterling-Sterling and Ricky Korboa putting in crosses or going on runs that had the Town defence working hard.
Peter Adeniyi came on for the last 15 minutes as a Cheadle free kick flew across the visitors' six yard box a couple of minutes later - it only needed a touch.
A golden chance arrived on 83 minutes as we won a corner. The delivery was met by Paris Hamilton-Downes at close range but he put his header just over the crossbar.
We survived a low Ridge cross that was just in front of the incoming Wood at the other end, but we finished with Cheadle testing Lincoln twice from distance which the keeper was equal to.
We host Corinthian Casuals in the Velocity Cup on Monday 17th September before we head off to Bishop Stortford on Saturday 22nd September.
