Team news Boss Peter Adeniyi made two changes from last Saturday’s game against Worthing – Harry Ottaway was injured and Daniel Pappoe dropped to the bench as Danny Dudley and Ernold Haxhiu came back in.

Kick-off The first chance of the game fell to the home side on four minutes – James Thomas managed wriggled his way through into the Robins box, but Kleton Perntreou pushed the shot away and Danny Norton fired the rebound over the crossbar.

Both sides were looking to get the ball forward quickly but Carshalton’s first glimpse of the home goal came on 19 minutes, but Tommy Bradford’s header on Bobby Price’s cross looped over the far post.

Bradford’s evening came to an abrupt ending five minutes later – he and goalkeeper Callum Chafer clashed on Haxhiu’s cross and the forward was left writhing in agony. He was carried off the pitch, replaced by Jordan Cheadle, but thankfully nothing was broken and Bradford left under his own steam after the game.

The Robins came close to scoring just after the half-hour mark as Lewis White’s angled drive was blocked by Tom Stephen at the far post. The ball was only cleared to Price and his 20 yard hit was palmed over by Chafer.

The next chance fell to Omar Koroma as he met a Cheadle free kick delivery but his header flew over the goal.

Bowers and Pitsea finished the half strongly as Perntreou was twice called into action – he comfortably saved a 20 yard free kick by Sartain, while Pedro Silva-Barbosa showed neat feet inside Carshalton’s box but the goalkeeper blocked the close range shot.

HALF-TIME: 0 – 0

Carshalton came out firing after the break and created several chances in the first 15 minutes.

Haxhiu found Koroma on the edge of the area on 53 minutes but his eventual left-footed shot went into Chafer’s midriff.

Then a corner kick was met by the head of Ola Sogbanmu but, again, the attempt was straight at the home keeper.

The Robins then won a free kick right on the edge of the Bowers box, but Chafer was equal to Koroma’s angled strike and the loose ball was hacked away.

Haxhiu was at it again on the hour, curling a lovely inswinging cross that Price came on to at the far post, but the defender saw the ball fly just the wrong side of the upright.

And it was almost déjà vu as the Robins failed to convert all those opportunities and the home side had a gilt-edged chance to open the scoring, but sub Max Cornhill put a free header from four yards wide off the far post.

Carshalton responded with Price getting in a cross on 74 minutes that Sogbanmu deftly flicked goalwards, but Chafer showed great reactions to claw the ball away.

Cheadle made a great run down the left on 80 minutes and, following a quick one-two, delivered a low cross that Koroma helped on to the unmarked Pattisson, but the forward hesitated and recovering defenders meant his stabeed effort lacked the power to trouble Chafer.

But the deadlock was eventually broken with six minutes to go – Hamilton-Downes found Cheadle and the full-back strode forward before banging a 25 yard strike beyond Chafer and into the back of the net.

And the away fans were praising another defender in added time – a long throw was flicked on inside their area and Cornhill’s header deflected off Luke Read. The ball had beaten Perntreou but Dudley blocked it away virtually off his own line.

The three points took Carshalton back up into fifth place ahead of a trip to second-placed Folkestone Invicta on Saturday.
