Team news Player/boss Peter Adeniyi took himself, Jordan Cheadle, Jerry Amoo and Kershaney Samuels out from the side that beat Frome Town, with Omar Koroma, Bobby Price, Luke Read and Lenny Hein all returning.

Kick-off Both sides settled into this one early but chances were at a premium – the closest we got to some excitement was, on 15 minutes, home keeper Harry Girling rushed out to clear the ball away from the incoming Koroma. Christie Pattisson looked up from about 50 yards and chipped the ball goalwards, but Girling had recovered to pluck the ball out the air.

Read was forced into a good tackle as Ryan Moss’ header almost got Roman Campbell in behind the centre back on 23 minutes, but the defender wasn’t wearing his shooting boots as a 30 yard effort flew over Girling’s crossbar two minutes later.

Cheshunt’s Campbell was almost handed an early Christmas present on the half-hour as Tommy Bradford’s stray pass fell to him, but Read did enough to force the striker wide before Kleton Perntreou gathered his eventual left-footed effort.

The home side had lost seven games in a row ahead of this clash but midfielder Sam Collins almost gave them the lead on 33 minutes, but Perntreou caught the 35 yard free kick at full stretch.

It took something a bit special to eventually separate the two teams – Ricky Korboa took down Paris Hamilton-Downes’ cross in the area and he teed up Koroma whom rifled in a left-footed shot from 15 yards.

HALF-TIME: 0 - 1

Both sides tried to get forward after the break – Moss hit a free kick into the wall of red shirts on 54 minutes, while Korboa almost got Koroma in again shortly afterwards.

But Pattisson had a great chance to score just before the hour as he burst through and rounded Girling, but Sean Cronin did well to get back and divert the forward away from goal.

Carshalton had an opportunity from a free kick on 65 minutes but Hamilton-Downes’ strike on the far side went straight at the home keeper.

Two minutes later and Hein picked out the run of Korboa who was eventually denied by Girling and Bradford couldn’t force in the rebound.

Cheshunt huffed and puffed to put some pressure on the Robins’ goal but Perntreou was well-protected by his back four, meaning the travelling fans hoped yet another missed chance for Carshalton – this time as Pattisson failed to convert a Korboa pass - wouldn’t come to bite them on the backside.

The home side won a free kick 25 yards from goal on 75 minutes but, again, the effort didn’t get past the wall. However, a minute later, they did almost equalise – Moss played a neat one-two with Newton and swung a cross towards the back post, but Ambrose Gnahore’s volley was pushed away by Perntreou.

Korboa should’ve put the result beyond doubt two minutes after that scare but, after doing well o break into the box and work an angle, his firm low shot curled the wrong side of the far post.
