Team news It was a more familiar line-up compared to Tuesday’s defeat at Chertsey Town – Kleton Perntreou, Bobby Price, Luke Read, Danny Dudley, Omar Koroma, Christie Pattisson and Ricky Korboa all returned. Ex-Robins defender Liam Gordon was named in the visitors’ line-up.

Kick-off The first chance fell to Carshalton on four minutes as Koroma found Pattisson and his cross eventually found its way to Paris Hamilton-Downes, but his 18 yard effort flew off target.

And the best chance of the half arrived just a minute later – Dagenham, managed by ex-Crystal Palace and England U21 boss Peter Taylor, won a free kick on the far side, but Perntreou was alert to tip James Dobson’s whipped effort over the bar.

The Robins had set up with a back five and this meant the visitors enjoyed the lion’s share of possession during the opening half, but they couldn’t pierce the wall of red.

But when they did, as on 33 minutes, Perntreou wasn’t found wanting as he comfortably claimed an effort by Daggers top scorer Angelo Balanta.

Visiting keeper Elliot Justman had even littler to do as his defenders dealt with a couple of good Carshalton deliveries into his area, while Dobson flashed a cross-shot wide of Perntreou’s far post before the break.

HALF-TIME: 0 - 0

The blue touch paper was lit five minutes after the restart – Pattisson got on the end of a long goal kick and put in a low cross. Korboa couldn’t quite turn it goalwards, the ball was only half-cleared and Price managed to turn it back inside the far post from about 10 yards.

That got the home fans rocking but Perntreou was called into action again on 55 minutes as he got down to clutch a soft header by Alex McQueen.

The visitors made a double substitution on the hour and it paid dividends just four minutes later – an inswinging cross from Matt Robinson was met by sub Reece Grant whom nodded in unchallenged from close range.

So back to square one and Dagenham tried to force the issue as they did in the first-half, but Dobson fired over from 20 yards while Read, Pappoe and Dudley all made brave blocks to halt other attacks reaching Perntreou.

Carshalton continued to be patient and, on 77 minutes, Price and Koroma got the ball to Korboa whom slalomed past a couple of opponents before shooting wide.

Tommy Bradford and Peter Adeniyi were both introduced during the last 10 minutes and the latter was instrumental in creating the winner.

The ball was cleared into Adeniyi whom nutmegged Robinson before sweeping the ball out to Korboa. The in-form forward charged goalwards and, as the Daggers defence failed to close him down, he took aim from about 15 yards to angle the ball past Justman and inside the far post.

The visitors created a couple of half chances in added time, but Perntreou first saved Joe Quigley’s header on a deep cross.

Then, on 94 minutes, Quigley put Dudley under pressure on a loose ball and seemed to burst through with only Perntreou to beat, but Read came flying across and superbly blocked the ball away as the striker shaped to shoot.

The draw for the first round proper takes place on Monday 21st October (via the BBC, 7.10pm) and Carshalton Athletic are ball number 79.
