Team news There were two changes from the side that beat Potters Bar Town 5-1 last weekend as Daniel Pappoe and Kershaney Samuels replaced Ola Sogbanmu and Christie Pattisson.

Kick-off The game was played in horrible conditions throughout and the blustery wind played a part in the opening goal – a cross by Amos Nasha on 23 minutes caught the wind to deceive Kleton Perntreou and end up in the back of the net.

And United doubled their lead 10 minutes later as Danny Dudley was harshly adjudged to have fouled Darren Foxley as the pair came together in the box. The striker picked himself up and duly converted the spot-kick.

The Robins created better chances after the break but Luke Read just couldn’t connect on a wicked Jordan Cheadle free kick on 55 minutes, while Cheadle himself put a potshot just over the crossbar.

Ricky Korboa burst through with 10 minutes to go but, as he went one-on-one with the goalkeeper, his attempted chip was gathered by Giddens.

Carshalton almost scored a similar goal to United’s opener on 84 minutes as a Cheadle corner swirled goalwards but Giddens managed to smother the ball on his own line.

And Perntreou kept the scoreline down with a superb save at the death to deny United a third.

This result, coupled with Hornchurch's draw at Margate, means Carshalton have slipped down to fourth in the Isthmian Premier standings.
