Team news Two changes were made from the win over Lowestoft Town as Omar Koroma and Ola Sogbanmu came in for Peter Adeniyi and Ernold Haxhiu.

Kick-off For such an enthralling game overall, the first chance arrived on 12 minutes as Christie Pattisson burst through on a long ball but home keeper George Bentley beat his firm shot away from goal.

Carshalton came even closer four minutes later as they won a free kick just outside the Horsham box – up stepped Jordan Cheadle but his ferocious drive was tipped onto the crossbar by Bentley.

The home fans were calling for a penalty on 18 minutes as full back Harry Mills bombed forward, via a neat one-two with George Hayward, into the Robins’ area. Kershaney Samuels came to intercept and Mills went down, but the referee wasn’t interested.

Kleton Perntreou’s first real action came a few minutes later as Rob O’Toole lined one up for 25 yards, but the keeper saved it and Danny Dudley smashed away the loose ball.

The game was now bubbling nicely although both sides were guilty of sloppy passing in opposing final thirds at times.

But Bentley was called into action again just after the half-hour mark – a sliced clearance by Harvey Sparkes was helped on by Koroma into the path of Ricky Korboa, but the keeper blocked his left-footed shot round the post. Carshalton got the ball into the back of the net from the corner but a linesman’s flag curtailed the celebrations.

It would be the Robins to open the scoring however and it came after Tommy Bradford was tripped just inside the Horsham area on 37 minutes – Koroma stepped up and powered the ball beyond the dive of Bentley for his fifth of the season.

But that just set this rollercoaster of a game into motion as Carshalton found themselves trailing by half-time.

A deep Kieron Pamment cross on 41 minutes was nodded down to Chris Smith and he drove his eleventh goal of the season in from 15 yards.

And, just two minutes later, Charlie Harris was afforded space to cut onto his left and he smashed home an 18 yard drive that nicked off Perntreou’s outstretched arm.

    HALF-TIME: 2 – 1

Carshalton tried to responded straight after kick-off and, on 49 minutes, Sogbanmu met a first-time Cheadle cross only to head the ball straight at Bentley.

But the Hornets were looking comfortable and Perntreou was alert to keep out an O’Toole half volley on 57 minutes.

Adeniyi and Haxhiu were introduced on the hour and the latter almost made an instant impact, drilling a low shot from 18 yards narrowly wide of the post.

And the Robins slowly started putting the league leaders on the back foot – Korboa fizzed an angled drive wide on 67 minutes, then the forward drew a save out of Bentley three minutes later when a pass to the unmarked Samuels might’ve perhaps yielded a goal.

But the fourth goal of the evening arrived on 77 minutes as Korboa got past Sparks and put in a low cross that Bentley spilled to allow Price to pounce from close range.

Just a minute later and Pattisson managed to keep the ball despite being surrounded by four opponents and his floated effort had to be tipped over by Bentley.

Then a bigger chance as Alex Kelly and Joe Shelley dithered on a Carshalton clearance which allowed Samuels to nip in before squaring to the unmarked Korboa, but his first-time shot was straight at the onrushing Bentley.

A massive opportunity fell to Pamment with just five minutes remaining as Horsham broke forward, O’Toole picked the midfielder out in the Carshalton area and he cut inside his marker. He had the whole goal to aim for but he blazed his effort over the bar.

Cheadle was penalised for a soft foul just as the game ticked over in added time and the referee pulled out the defender’s second yellow of the evening, but that didn’t negatively affect the outcome of the game.
