Match summary - Leatherhead (h)

We earned a Bank Holiday victory over Leatherhead, writes James Barrett-Sterling.

Team news Rio Davidson-Phipps was handed a first start of the season, while Jacob Mendy and Jerson dos Santos came back into the starting eleven. Ex-Robin Craig Ross was in the visitors’ line-up.

Kick-off This was a hard fought three points as Leatherhead gave as good as they got across the 90 minutes, the first chances didn’t arrive until after the first 10 minutes – Luke Benyon was inches away from connecting with decent cross, while in-form Ricky Korboa drew a fine save from Ross.

The visitors made a lot of the running and kept our backline and Billy Bishop on their toes, but Jordan Cheadle was uncharacteristically wasteful with a couple of good dead ball situations and dos Santos fired wide from a good position.

It remained goalless going into the second-half but, just after the hour, Mike Dixon broke his duck and put us into the lead with his first goal since arriving in pre-season.

Then, just two minutes later, Ricky Korboa continued his fine start to the season by taking aim from almost 40 yards and beating the dive of Ross into the top corner.

Leatherhead sub Rob Cullen headed his side back into it within a minute of coming on but, thanks in part to a late double save by Bishop, we held on for a second league win of the season.
