Injuries forced a reshuffle as Ola Sogbanmu, Ernold Haxhiu and Danny Dudley came in for Kershaney Samuels, Jerry Amoo and Daniel Pappoe. Youngsters Dario Centenera, Darren Thomas and Joao Augusto were named among the substitutes. Ex-Robin Joe Tupper was in goal for the visitors.

The first half chance of the game fell to the Robins on eight minutes after Peter Adeniyi nodded a ball down to Korboa inside the Margate box, but the forward didn’t catch his shot and Tupper easily claimed it low to his right.

And skipper Paris Hamilton-Downes showed some neat footwork a few minutes later as Margate could only half-clear a Tommy Bradford free kick – the defender nicked the bouncing ball over his marker before crashing a half volley towards goal, but the ball flew over the bar.

The match was a scrappy affair overall as both sides misplaced many passes and failed to seriously trouble either goalkeeper throughout, but the visitors did the latter on 26 minutes as Adem Ramadan forced Kleton Perntreou into a fine save from distance.

Then, from the resultant corner, Emmanuel Fernandez nodded the ball back across Carshalton’s goal for Noel Leighton to head goalwards, but Luke Read superbly cleared it off his own line.

The home side responded through Peter Adeniyi whom won the ball deep in Margate territory before playing Korboa in towards goal, but his left-footed effort dragged wide of the far post.

Tupper then got behind a 25 yard free kick by Bradford, while Leighton had a shot blocked by one of three covering Robins as the game threatened to swing back-and-forth.

But the last good chance of the half went to the visitors as a short corner routine saw Daniel Kadell weave his way towards the near post, which attracted the attention of Perntreou, but he pulled the ball back to Leighton. His shot was on target but this time Hamilton-Downes blocked the ball from going in.

HALF-TIME: 0 - 0

Hamilton-Downes was alert at the start of the second-half as he managed to halt a low Elliot Reeves cross from finding an unmarked Leighton inside the Carshalton six-yard box.

But the game wasn’t producing any moments of quality, while Read had to be replaced on 66 minutes after suffering a head injury while helping to defend a corner kick.

Ramadan tested Perntreou from distance again just two minutes later but the keeper pushed the ball away to safety, while Haxhiu burst beyond the visitors’ defence on 75 minutes but he shot the wrong side of the near post from about four yards.

It seemed the game needed something special to break the deadlock and it duly came on 78 minutes as sub Jordan Cheadle got Korboa away down the left. The forward cut inside Michael Abnett before hitting a low shot back inside the near post for his second of the season.

This result now means Carshalton have only lost once in eight games ahead of a visit by Lewes on Monday evening.
