Team news There were three changes from the side that beat Brightlingsea Regent last Monday – Bobby Price, Christie Pattisson and Lenny Hein came in for Peter Adeniyi, Kershaney Samuels and Omar Koroma.

Kick-off The visitors had already claimed an Isthmian Premier scalp in this competition by comprehensively beating Margate 4-0 in the last round.

And an upset was on the cards again as Tooting took an early lead at Colston Avenue – Luke Read lost possession midway inside his own half, Hady Ghandour took the ball forward and he dispatched a left-footed drive from 18 yards past Kleton Perntreou.

Tooting’s high-energy tempo prevented the Robins from seriously testing keeper James Shaw, but a low cross was held by the keeper at the feet of Ricky Korboa on 11 minutes.

Daryl Coleman and Ghandour both put half-chances just wide of the mark for Tooting as the game ebbed back and forth.

But Carshalton’s only shots on target came via free kicks won on 22 and 38 minutes, but Tommy Bradford and Pattisson hit their efforts straight at Shaw.

The home side had an appeal for a penalty waved away on 40 minutes, after a quick Perntreou kick went over the head of Danny Bassett and got Korboa away, but the referee didn’t think the forward was fouled by Dean Hamlin.

HALF-TIME: 0 - 1

The pendulum swung after the break however as Carshalton began to attack from the off and Korboa’s low cross on 47 minutes just ran behind the oncoming Pattisson and Haxhiu.

The Robins pressed again and Pattisson got a shot off which Shaw blocked with his legs out for a corner. The delivery was half-cleared back to Pattisson whom found Bradford 25 yards from goal and he smashed home his fifth of the season.

And there was time for Haxhiu to drive an effort just off target before Carshalton scored again – this time it was Amoo whom looked up from the edge of the visitors’ area before deliciously curling the ball around Shaw and inside the far post.

Carshalton kept coming but Shaw did well to deny Korboa on 66 minutes, while an Amoo cross found Pattisson on the near side of the Tooting area but he blazed a shot over the top.

Both sides introduced fresh legs as the clock ticked down to the last quarter of an hour, but Tooting never gave up as Razzaq Coleman tested Perntreou with a low drive.

And the Carshalton keeper had to be alert on 77 minutes as Ghandour burst in on a through ball, but Perntreou rushed out to block at the forward’s feet.

The home side didn’t really threaten Shaw again and so it was down to Perntreou to ensure Carshalton’s safe passage into the next round – Ghandour managed to get on to Dominic Morgan-Griffiths’ weighted through ball and angle a low shot across goal, but the keeper got down low to palm the ball away from danger.

The draw for the next round of the FA Trophy will take place on Monday 25th November.
