Our 'Man of the Match': Ricky Korboa
Both Jacob Mendy and Christie Pattisson came back into the starting line-up as Danny Dudley and Kalvin Morath-Gibbs were unavailable. Billy Bishop was back among the substitutes.
Brightlingsea actually had the first shot of the game on five minutes as Aaron Condon hit a 20 yard effort that Patrick Ohman claimed.
The Robins went straight down the other end and perhaps should've opened the scoring - a neat passing move ended with Ricky Korboa putting Harry Ottaway in on goal. The striker just about got round the sprawling James Bradbrook but Matt Cripps got back and deflected his shot onto the post.
Bradbrook was tested again 10 minutes later as Paris Hamilton-Downes took aim from 20 yards, but the keeper tipped it round at full stretch.
Carshalton were dominating possession but failing to capitalise when in and around the Regent area and the visitors almost made them pay on 29 minutes.
A corner delivery was met by the unmarked Jake Turner at the back post but the angle was tight and his header hit the outside of the upright.
That opened the game up a little - Bradford saw a shot deflected off target, Billy Hunt was millimetres away from converting a wicked Turner cross on 35 minutes and Pattisson could only hit Bradbrook when played through one-on-one.
But the deadlock was finally broken three minutes before the break - Pattisson showed a clean pair of heels to Jake Gould and his low centre was steered in by Bradford for his tenth of the season.
HALF-TIME: 1 - 0
The frustration around Colston Avenue dissipated during half-time and Regent made a double substitution to lend support to Hunt up front.
But it was Bradbrook still the busier of the two keepers - he managed to claw away a corner kick under pressure and parry away another effort from Pattisson on the hour.
Pattisson was at it again two minutes later after some fantastic skill and strength by Ottaway played him in, but the winger's angled drive flew over the crossbar.
Regent began to flag and Ohman became a virtual spectator for the rest of the match, but Carshalton didn't score again until after the introduction of Omar Koroma.
The striker, whom hadn't scored since November as he's battled with injury, made an impact on 81 minutes - Korboa was fouled 30 yards from goal and Koroma stepped up to curl a shot in off the bar and raise the Avenue roof.
And the same pair combined again on 87 minutes as Korboa did excellently to rob the ball off the last defender before bearing down on goal. Bradbrook came out to meet him, but the winger unselfishly squared to the unmarked Koroma whom tapped the ball in from about eight yards.
The result completed another 'double' for Carshalton (five in total so far this season) and leaves them just one point outside the play-off spots.
