    Carshalton Athletic 6 – 1 Burgess Hill Town Pre-season friendly Saturday 20th July 2019 Attendance: 131

Manager Peter Adeniyi put out a strong starting eleven for this one, including some ‘old new’ faces and some looking to impress, and the game caught alight in the third minute.

Ryan Gondoh forced Mitch Bromage into a low save and, from the resultant corner, Carshalton won a spot-kick as Ricky Korboa was felled in the area.

Raheem Sterling-Parker stepped up but Bromage guessed right and punched the ball away. However, following the corner delivery, the Robins won another penalty and Jerry Amoo stepped up to beat the keeper high to his left.

Then, sixty seconds later, Korboa cut in from the left and found Gondoh who looked up and curled a shot across Bromage and in from 20 yards.

So 2-0 up inside seven minutes and cruising, but Aaron Smith-Joseph had the next chance as his angled drive for Town cannoned off the far upright.

But Carshalton went further ahead on 13 minutes as Amoo was played in beyond the Town defence and he impudently chipped Bromage from about 12 yards.

And that lead was extended by captain Paris Hamilton-Downes just before the half-hour – he met a deep corner delivery and poked in from close range.

Sterling-Parker erased his earlier disappointment too as he was found by Korboa and he lashed home a shot on 34 minutes.

Town rallied and Pat Harding forced the home keeper into a low save, then a low centre by Thomas Cadman was guided goalwards but Charles Banya blocked the effort almost on the line.

The goals dried up after the break, although Sterling-Parker had one disallowed for a marginal offside flag, as both sides made multiple substitutions.

Town grabbed a consolation on 80 minutes as a Smith-Joseph cross deceived the Carshalton keeper and nestled inside the top far corner.

But the last word went to Jordan Cheadle whom, after being teed up by Harry Ottaway 20 yards from goal, rifled home a low shot to restore the Robins’ five-goal cushion.
