Carshalton Athletic 2 - 2 Charlton Athletic XI

    Pre-season friendly

    Monday 22nd July 2019

    Attendance: 171

Once again the attending fans were treated to a strong starting line-up and the opening goal came in just the eighth minute.

A long ball out the back by Kamara wasn't dealt with by the Charlton backline, Harry Ottaway nodded Ricky Korboa in on goal and he guided the ball home for his first goal of pre-season.

Korboa had a golden chance to double his tally just before the half-hour - he neatly took down a long pass down in his stride and bore down on goal, but his low shot whistled just wide of the right-hand post.

Ottaway won a high ball on 31 minutes and played a neat one-two with Ola Sogbanmu. His cross was deflected back into the midfielder but he shot wildly off target from about 15 yards.

But Korboa was involved for the second goal of the evening as he tricked his way into the Charlton box before being felled. Ryan Gondoh stepped up and made no mistake from the penalty spot.

Michael Onovwigun came on for Sogbanmu at the start of the second-half, but Charlton almost reduced the arrears on 49 minutes as a shot at Dario's goal flew just over the crossbar.

A neat passing move involving Gondoh, Onovwigun and Korboa eventually saw the ball rolled back from Jordan Cheadle, but his effort from 25 yards didn't trouble the visiting keeper.

A host of changes came around the hour mark but Carshalton still looked comfortable with their lead, Dario only being called upon to make two routine saves.

But the game livened up again in the last 10 minutes as, firstly, a Charlton defender, under no pressure, flicked a near post corner over the bar.

Then, on 88 minutes, after Daniel Pappoe had tangled with an opponent inside his own box, Charlton pulled a goal back with an awarded penalty.

Carshalton almost restored their two-goal cushion right away but Charlton's keeper did well to punch away a ferocious Sterling-Parker effort at full stretch.

And, deep into added time, a left wing cross was nodded beyond Dario by one of the Charlton strikers to ensure they didn't fall to a defeat.
