Our 'Man of the Match': Harry Ottaway
Peter Adeniyi replaced the injured Ola Sogbanmu from Tuesday night, while Bobby Price was fit enough to be named back among the substitutes.
Folkestone's Ira Jackson forced Patrick Ohman into a low save at his near post inside the first 60 seconds and the blistering start to the match continued two minutes later.
Ottaway's forward run was found neatly by Adeniyi and the striker hit a firm shot across keeper Tim Roberts couldn't prevent flashing inside the top far corner.
Tommy Bradford teed Ottaway up for a similar chance minutes later but this time Roberts did manage to parry the ball away. The goalscorer met the deep corner delivery but a defender nodded the ball away from almost on the goal-line.
Despite dominating the chances, the visitors regained some composure and, after Kieron McCann had hit a shot just over, they caught the Robins a bit cold on 20 minutes and Alfie Paxman smashed a bouncing shot beyond Ohman in from 25 yards.
Things got worse as, five minutes later, Scott Heard found Jackson six yards from goal and the striker managed to score inside the right-hand post at the second attempt to stun Colston Avenue.
Carshalton tried to reassert their early dominance but the visitors were in no mood to give away any more chances - the best one came on 43 minutes as Ottaway slid a pass into Jacob Mendy who, despite not knowing he was offside anyway, could only hit Roberts from 15 yards.
HALF-TIME: 1 - 2
Both sides traded early attacks in the second-half - Callum Davies headed just over Ohman's crossbar, while Mendy thrashed a wayward effort off target on 54 minutes.
But, just four minutes later, Bradford played a perfectly-weighted through ball for Mendy to latch onto and the versatile midfielder kept his cool to beat Roberts for his sixth of the season.
Bradford had a glimpse of goal himself a minute later, played in by Ricky Korboa, but his cross-shot rolled wide of the far post.
It was the Robins in the ascendancy as Folkestone struggled to threaten Ohman again and they retook the lead with 15 minutes remaining - an overlapping Price hit a low cross in that Ottaway dispatched clinically first-time from six yards.
And Ottaway completed his hat-trick just five minutes later as he guided a dinked Korboa pass past the oncoming Roberts from about 16 yards and the ball eventually rolled into the empty net to the ecstatic cheers of the home fans.
The victory puts Carshalton just six points outside the play-off positions with a game against Harlow Town to come on Monday night.
