Our ' Man of the Match': Harry Ottaway
Luke Read, Ola Sogbanmu, Harry Ottaway and Ricky Korboa all came back in, while Taofiq Olomowewe was back among the substitutes. Ex-Robin Tommy Brewer was in the host's starting line-up.
The match began fairly evenly but, although Kingstonian looked the more threatening, the first chance fell to Ricky Korboa who saw a shot deflected away from just inside the box.
The first goal of the game arrived on seven minutes however - a long ball out of the home defence saw Rhys Murrell-Williamson and Bobby Price contest it on the bounce. The midfielder got in front and managed to lift the ball into the area but, as Patrick Ohman backpedalled, it looped and went in off the far post.
The home side stayed on the front foot and Louie Theophanous saw a 20 yard effort fizz over the crossbar and Scott Davies bent a free kick just wide on 18 minutes.
But the tide turned as Carshalton began to put some positive attacks together and it culminated with an equaliser on 27 minutes - a left-footed Price cross was bravely met by a diving Harry Ottaway and his header flew over the statuesque Rob Tolfrey and looped inside the far post.
Kingstonian then lost Theophanous, their second-top goalscorer, to injury and the referee almost went the same way on 37 minutes as he tripped up running with play (but he dusted himself off!).
Tommy Bradford and Korboa combined on 42 minutes and the latter cut inside his marker before unleashing a shot, but a opponent bravely blocked it away from goal.
HALF-TIME: 1 - 1
The opening 15 minutes of the second-half was a stalemate as both defences stayed on top and neither goalkeeper was called into any serious action.
Then, on 62 minutes, a good Carshalton attack ended with a half-clearance dropping to Jordan Cheadle but Tolfrey got behind his 25 yard shot.
The home side then fashioned a half chance as Murrell-Williamson got a lucky break off a high ball but he skied an effort from distance way over the bar.
A minute later and a corner kick for the Robins was flicked on by Paris Hamilton-Downes and Pappoe, flying in at the back post, couldn't guide his header back inside the post.
Omar Koroma was introduced for Christie Pattisson on 68 minutes but a clearance set Ks sub Nathan Minhas away. He managed to squeeze past both Danny Dudley and Pappoe on his way to goal but the centre backs eventually combined to stop him testing Ohman.
Carshalton were given a huge opportunity to take the lead on 75 minutes as Ottaway went down in the box and the referee, much to the disbelief of the home players, pointed to the spot. Koroma stepped up but the Robins' poor record from the spot continued as Tolfrey guessed right and pushed the low shot away.
But they smelt blood and came again - Korboa got the better of Brewer before teeing up Bradford from 18 yards but Tolfrey again pulled off a good save to deny him. The resultant corner was flicked on by Koroma and the ball seemed to be blocked on the line by a combination of Ottaway and a defender, otherwise it was a goal.
Dudley made a great block to deny Shaun McAuley as the midfielder skipped into the Carshalton box and seemed destined to smash a shot on target, but it was still really all Carshalton - a neat one-two between Bradford and Korboa saw a low cross pass Tolfrey but a clearing boot met it ahead of Ottaway and Koroma.
And the same pair combined again on 90 minutes as Bradford squared the ball to Korboa who was just inside the Kingstonian box, but he opted for power and smashed the ball over the crossbar.
