We fell to a second defeat in North London, along with a harsh late dismissal, within a week, writes James Barrett-Sterling.
Wingate & Finchley 2 - 0 Carshalton Athletic Bostik Premier League Saturday 22nd December Attendance: 89 Last five results: WLWLL Current league position: 13th (with 28 points)
Team news The return of Christie Pattisson boosted the attacking options as he began down the right, while Bobby Price and Jacob Mendy replaced Paris Hamilton-Downes and Omar Koroma from Monday night.
The teams were evenly matched during the opening exchanges, both keepers were forced into comfortable saves and Wingate's Ahmet Rifat fired a 20 yard free kick over our bar on 22 minutes.
But the home side opened the scoring on 38 minutes as David Manu took down a right wing pass, strode unchallenged into our box and sidefooted past Patrick Ohman.
We almost equalised either side of half-time but Shane Gore pulled out good stops to deny Bobby Price and, after the break, Danny Dudley.
And Wingate doubled their lead just after the hour as Rob Laney went down in our box and Manu beat Ohman from the spot.
Sub Mike Dixon almost reduced the arrears on 84 minutes but he fired wide from inside the box, while Jordan Cheadle was harshly dismissed in added time for taking down Laney as the striker took the ball towards the corner flag.
Next up We head to Leatherhead on Wednesday 26th December before we host Tonbridge Angels on Saturday 29th December.
