Much changed Leatherhead side to face Robins

Carshalton Athletic will aim to put the disappointment of the midweek loss to Horsham behind them when they face Leatherhead at Colston Avenue on Saturday 27th November (3pm kick off).

It’s been a turbulent season so far for the visitors, exemplified by managerial changes and a dressing room revolving door that has seen no less than 49 different players turn out for the Tanners already. They currently sit bottom of the Isthmian League Premier Division with eight points from 17 games. Despite signs of improvement in recent weeks, they have lost their last three league games, the last of those also coincidentally against Horsham last Saturday.

Back in August, Carshalton came away with a 3-0 win from Fetcham Grove with Paris Hamilton-Downes, Dan Hector and Harry Ottaway on the scoresheet. But it will be a very different Leatherhead team from the one that the Robins faced previously. Only one of their starters against Horsham last Saturday was in the line-up that Bank Holiday Monday.

Hamilton-Downes, who should be available again after suspension, has in fact scored in the last three meetings between the two teams dating back to August 2019. The Robins will also hope to welcome back Hector, who joined Carshalton from Leatherhead in October 2020.

Despite the Tanners’ lowly league position, Robins’ coach Alberto Kurti said after the Horsham game that they won’t be taking their weekend opponents lightly. “I’m confident in the squad to put things right on Saturday. I’ve said before, and say it again, it’s not a question of what other teams do, it’s what we do that matters. We have to do better and remember that when we play our way, we can be unplayable at times.”
