An injury time strike from wing back Corey Parchment sent Potters Bar Town back round the M25 with a 3-2 win from Colston Avenue and virtually end the Robins’ outside chance of a playoff berth on Saturday.
The afternoon had started off looking like a stroll in the park for the visitors as they raced into a 2-0 lead in the first 15 minutes. First ex-Kingstonian man, Calvin Ekpiteta worked some space on the edge of the penalty area and fired past Lloyd Thomas and just three minutes later Joe Boachie was set free to hit a rising shot into the net after a Carshalton mistake in midfield.
As Carshalton awoke from their slumbers, Dan Roberts forced a good saved from Hafed Al Droubi before Dan Bassett gave the home fans something to truly shout about with a shot that deflected into the net for his 21st goal of the season. Just before half time Al Droubi pulled off the save of the match from a top corner bound Roberts thunderbolt.
With Carshalton having the best of the chances in the second half, Roberts again tested Al Droubi. And with 15 minutes to go their persistence earned an equalizer as Dan Bennett headed home a precision cross from player/manager, Peter Adeniyi, for his second goal in consecutive home games.
If any team looked likely to force a winner, it was Carshalton. A hard, low cross from the excellent Aziz Sankoh just evaded Roberts at the far post and substitute Dan Pappoe, returning to the line-up after injury, headed onto the top of the net from a Tommy Bradford corner.
Once again though, as at East Thurrock a couple of weeks ago, the Robins were hit by a late sucker blow. After good individual work by Aaron Eyoma from a long Al Droubi clearance, the ball fell kindly to Parchment who buried a shot past Thomas off the inside of the far post.
The loss, combined with a Cheshunt win, dropped the Robins to ninth in the division, 11 points outside the playoff places.
