Carshalton visit Cray Wanderers

Carshalton Athletic travel to play Cray Wanderers on Saturday 22nd January (3pm kick off) looking to reverse a 3-1 defeat at Colston Avenue earlier in the season.

The Robins will be seeking their fourth straight league win and third straight clean sheet following last Saturday’s 1-0 victory at Bowers and Pitsea, courtesy of Tommy Bradford's first goal of the season in the second half. That win took them up to eighth in the Isthmian League Premier Division.

Cray Wanderers have been languishing near the bottom of the league for most of the season and currently sit in 20th place with 20 points from 24 games. They started 2022 positively, however, with a win over East Thurrock before starting a run of home games with an entertaining 4-4 draw against high-flying Enfield Town. Subsequent home games have yielded two narrow defeats to Bognor and Corinthian Casuals and a 0-0 draw with bottom club, Leatherhead, on Wednesday evening.

Since Cray took the points at a rain soaked Colston Avenue in early October, ending a run of seven straight defeats, the club has seen a change of manager and lots of new faces on the pitch. Previous player/manager, Danny Kedwell, and his assistant, Andy Drury, who scored Cray’s third goal in the earlier game, both left the club in late December. In their place, former player Grant Basey has been appointed as interim manager.

The latest in a host of new player signings in recent weeks are Luca Albon, who joined from the Robins’ last opponents Bowers and Pitsea, and Jacob Munting, who signed from Walton and Hersham and made his debut as a substitute against Leatherhead in midweek.
