Robins aim to take sting out of Hornets’ league revival

Carshalton Athletic face Horsham at Colston Avenue on Monday 22 November (7.45pm kick off) in the Isthmian League Premier Division less than a month after the two sides met in the FA Trophy in West Sussex.

In that first encounter, the Robins resisted a Horsham fightback to win 3-2, after jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes. Dan Bassett, Lewis White and Paris Hamilton-Downes were on the scoresheet at the end of October.

Horsham followed that game with the long trip to League 2 Carlisle United, where they lost 2-0 in the first round of the FA Cup. Perhaps because of their cup exploits, the Hornets league form suffered in the early part of the season and they currently lie in 19th place in the division. However, they’ve won their last two league games away at Brightlingsea Regent and Leatherhead, scoring nine goals in the process, and have games in hand on several of the teams around them.

Familiar faces to Carshalton fans in the Horsham squad will include ex-Robins skipper, Danny Dudley, who missed the earlier cup game due to suspension, and Chris Sessegnon who, after playing a handful of games for Carshalton earlier this season, made his Horsham debut against Leatherhead on Saturday.

The Robins should at least come into the game with reasonably fresh legs after Saturday’s game against Hornchurch was abandoned before half time due to a floodlight failure caused by a local power cut. With other results, the abandonment meant that Carshalton slipped one place in the league to 10th.
