Our 'Man of the Match': Noe Vendrells

Team news

There were starts for Jerson dos Santos, Michael Aziaya, Billy Bishop and Courtney Swaby, while Peter Adeniyi, Harry Ottaway and Taofiq Olomowewe came back in. Youngsters Noe Vendrells and Jesse Sentamu were given a chance to impress.

It was a quiet start to this one - Aaron Lamont skied over the bar from 20 yards on four minutes, while Olomowewe met a corner kick on eight minutes but could only guide his free header down rather than at goal.

Neither goalkeeper had much to do in the first-half really - Ottaway got onto a deep corner delivery and crashed an effort over the bar, while Jordan Cheadle, Olomowewe and Danny Dudley all made good interceptions inside their own area at times.

Rob Tolfrey was finally given something to do on 31 minutes as dos Santos cut in from the left but his shot from 18 yards lacked power and the home keeper comfortably gathered it.

Carshalton then carved out the best clear-cut chance a few minutes later as Swaby won a free kick on the far side. Cheadle sized it up and fizzed in a low inswinging shot that Tolfrey palmed away.

But the home side eventually made the breakthrough as Louie Theophanous burst into the box on 42 minutes and squared for Terrique Hall-Anderson to slide the ball home from close range.

HALF-TIME: 1 - 0

The second-half started brighter - Tyler Brown hit a potshot at Billy Bishop, while Swaby got an effort off from 18 yards that was deflected just wide of the near post.

Bishop then made an outstanding save by stretching out a big hand to divert a firm Theophanous strike over the crossbar, and Carshalton defended away the corner.

But the Robins grabbed the next goal after Tolfrey punched away a ferocious shot by Ottaway. Vendrells and Swaby then combined the right and forced a corner that Olomowewe headed home despite the attentions of a defender on the line.

The game opened up and Sentamu forced Tolfrey into a flying save, while Bishop palmed away a Theophanous header on a cross at full stretch.

And three more goals arrived in the space of just six minutes with Carshalton taking the lead on 67 minutes - dos Santos tried to tee up Swaby on the edge of the Kingstonian box. He was forced out but the ball went back to dos Santos whom dug out a shot that flew over Tolfrey and under the crossbar.

But the Robins joy was short-lived - despite there being a handball in the build-up, Rhys Murrell-Williamson took aim from 30 yards and a wicked deflection carried the ball past Bishop to restore parity.

And the winger was at it again on 73 minutes, curling a shot beyond Bishop from by the D to put the home side back in pole position.

Carshalton finished the stronger and Ottaway flicked a long ball into the path of Sentamu but a great tackle by a recovering defender blocked his route to goal.

Then, in the last minute, Swaby cut inside and unleashed a shot that bounced up in front of Tolfrey and the keeper tipped it round the post. Dudley met the corner but, with the keeper beaten, his header was cleared off the line.
