Team news

Kalvin Morath-Gibbs came into midfield as Ola Sogbanmu dropped to the bench. Paris Hamilton-Downes was fit enough to be named among the substitutes. Ex-Robin Nathaniel Pinney lined up for the visitors.

We began very much on the front foot for this one and we got in front in the seventh minute.

Tommy Bradford got on the ball midway inside the Hawks' half and he found Ricky Korboa on the edge of their box. His touch ran away from him a little, but Omar Koroma bustled onto it beyond Regan Mendes and he drilled a low shot inside the far corner.

That was his fifth goal in seven appearances but, just five minutes later, we doubled our lead in spectacular fashion via a less likely source.

A long ball by Daniel Pappoe was nodded down by Koroma and Morath-Gibbs stole in to crash a half volley over keeper Melvin Minter and into the top corner.

We stayed on the front foot and Jordan Cheadle curled a 20 yard free kick just over Minter's bar as we probed forward at will.

The back four were handling Whitehawk's high balls with ease, but both sides were working so hard when out of possession that chances then became scarce.

The visitors' best spell of the game came around the half hour mark - firstly Connor Tighe got onto a bouncing ball and lined up a 25 yard half volley, but Patrick Ohman got down to clutch the ball.

Then, two minutes later, Pinney burst past Pappoe onto a through ball but Ohman did well to push the left-footed drive around the post.

We rolled our sleeves up, got back on the attack and Michael Onovwigun fizzed a low shot from 20 yards just wide, while Korboa shot straight at Minter on 39 minutes from a decent position.

HALF-TIME: 2 - 0

We dictated a lot of the play after the break but our first real attack came on 52 minutes - Cheadle picked out Bobby Price on the far side and he got Korboa away. The winger jinked inside his marker and rolled a pass towards Koroma but he didn't ctahc his shot 12 yards.

We came close to extending our lead on 58 minutes - Bradford went on a good run past two opponents and found Korboa in the box. He was surrounded by men in blue and couldn't get a shot off, so he dug out a cheeky cross with Koroma headed against the crossbar.

We made a change that saw Hamilton-Downes replace Onovwigun to make his first appearance since the end of September, while Ohman really didn't have much to do as the Hawks attack failed to really breach our backline.

Korboa did well to steal the ball on halfway on 75 minutes and he ran off towards the visitors' goal. He made some space past Edward Sanders but Minter did well to deflect the left-footed drive away with an outstretched leg.

Ola Sogbanmu and Michael Aziaya got some minutes before the end of the game but the closest we came to a third saw a free kick met by Hamilton-Downes at the back post, but he couldn't guide his header on target.
