Carshalton made light work of Whitstable Town in the round previous, coming away 5-1 winners with five different goal scorers opening their account for the 2020 season.
Faversham’s route to the first qualifying round was a little tougher as they had to go through the lottery that is the penalty shootout, in order to dispatch of Eastbourne Town. Striker Harry Harding has said he would love to add to his tally after bagging the Lillywhite’s only goal of the game in the 1-1 draw.
Faversham don’t have fond memories of travelling to South London when it comes to the FA cup. Last year they went out to the Robin’s most local of rivals Tooting & Mitcham 1-0 in the preliminary round.
The Lillywhites were due to get their league season up and running, away to Guernsey, but with the game postponed they will have had ten days to prep for their trip to Colston Avenue. The Robins on the other hand will have only had two days to rest up after opening their domestic season against Potters Bar on Saturday, with a much more competitive game than the 3-0 score line would have you believe.
Faversham will have to be at the top of their game to keep the Robins attack at bay. With eight goals in their opening two fixtures, the question from the Carshalton faithful seems to be not if they will score, but when. Omar Koroma has netted in each of those games as has left back Jordan Cheadle, the pick of which was a delightful free kick rounding off the league win against Potters Bar.
Faversham have the visit of Hastings Utd, who finished last season in first place, to look forward to next weekend. Carshalton, who you would be forgiven for thinking only played home fixtures after three on the bounce, finally have an away day to look forward to and where better to start than a trip to the coast. The destination, Margate, who also started their season with victory picking up a 2-1 win over Brightlingsea Regent.
