Subject to any late fixture rearrangements, Carshalton Athletic play their last Isthmian League Premier Division game before Christmas when they entertain Merstham on Saturday 11th December (kick off 3p.m.)
After taking four points out of six from what were, on paper, tough fixtures at Potters Bar and Bishops Stortford, the Robins will aim to bring their away form back to Colston Avenue where they have lost and drawn their last two home games.
Recent results have, however, pushed Carshalton up to eighth in the table, and Lewis White’s equalizer against Bishops Stortford last Saturday took him to eight goals for the season, two behind leading scorer Dan Bassett.
Merstham are another one of those sides in the division who, on their day, can beat anyone but inconsistency has left them currently in 15th place with 23 points from 19 games. Their most recent result was a 3-1 home defeat to Horsham last weekend.
Carshalton and Merstham have of course met in some big games in the recent past, the Robins having lost to the Moatsiders in the Isthmian League Premier Division play-off semi-final in May 2019. Player/manager Peter Adeniyi was on the scoresheet that day. And in last season’s shortened campaign, Harry Ottaway bagged a brace in a 3-1 Carshalton win in the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy.
Merstham's top scorer, Korrey Henry was on the scoresheet again in the Horsham game and has provided a constant goal threat since his arrival from Leatherhead earlier in the season. He has 11 goals from 12 games in a Merstham shirt, including four in the last three.
Following him on eight goals is John Ufuah, who had a brief spell with Carshalton earlier this season. Another regular in the Merstham starting line-up is James Richmond who also played briefly for the Robins in the 2018-19 season. Someone to look out for on the the bench is 49-year-old player/assistant manager, Barrie Hayles, whose playing career has included over 200 games for Fulham, including three seasons in the Premier League.
