Which Horsham team can Carshalton expect?

Carshalton Athletic take a break from league action but meet Isthmian League Premier Division rivals Horsham in the 3rd Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy at the Camping World Community Stadium (3pm kick off) on Saturday 30 October.

The question is which Horsham team will show up.

Will it be the one that sits in a lowly 21st position in the league after 11 games, with only one win so far? In midweek, their poor league form continued with a 1-0 loss at Kingstonian.

Or will it be the one that has reached the 1st round proper of the FA Cup and will see them making the long trip to League Two Carlisle United on Saturday 6 November? A cup run that has included a 1-0 home win over National League side Woking in the last round in front of 1,927 fans and earlier victories over National League South Eastbourne Borough and the then Isthmian League pacesetters, Kingstonian.

The two teams have never met before in the FA Trophy but did meet in the Preliminary Qualifying Round of the FA Cup in 2018-19 when Horsham ran out 1-0 winners at Colston Avenue. Danny Dudley was a Carshalton player at that time and is now in the Horsham squad, but is unlikely to be available for selection after being sent off recently against Bishops Stortford.

The Robins will be hoping a cup run can boost their recent inconsistent form which saw them drop to 13th in the league after last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Haringey Borough, in which they fell behind in the first minute. Last season, they made it to the second round of the FA Trophy before going out to Swindon Supermarine on penalties. And proof that a seventh tier team can lift the trophy is that the holders are Hornchurch.
