POSTPONED – CAFC Women vs Chessington & Hook Utd – Preview
Following a two-week break for cup fixtures, Carshalton Athletic return to league action on Sunday as they travel to Chessington & Hook United.
Chessington & Hook Utd
The 2025/26 season is Chessington & Hook’s first campaign fielding a senior team. Initially placed in Surrey Division 1, they were moved up to the Surrey Premier Division following the withdrawals of Beecholme Belles and Leatherhead Youth.
The Blues have made a promising start, recording two wins, two draws, and four defeats to sit fourth in the table – though several teams around them hold games in hand. Both of their wins have come away from home: a 2 – 0 opening-day victory at Walton & Hersham, and a 3 – 1 win at Epsom & Ewell in October. They have also picked up credible draws at Croydon FC (3 – 3) and at home to Oxted & District (2 – 2).
Their early results against four other sides in the division suggest they fully deserved their elevation and have adapted well. The Blues will view Sunday as an opportunity to secure another positive result – and potentially disrupt Carshalton’s title charge.
Carshalton Athletic
Carshalton Athletic currently sit top of the Surrey Premier Division with 21 points from their first eight games. It remains tight at the top, with Sutton and Dorking both just three points behind on 18. Sutton have two games in hand, while Dorking have one.
Sunday marks Carshalton’s first league match since their 5 – 0 win at Oxted & District three weeks ago, with cup competitions taking centre stage in recent weeks. The Robins progressed in the Surrey Divisional Cup after a hard-fought 4 – 3 win over Sutton United Reserves, but were knocked out of the Capital Intermediate Cup last weekend following a 2 – 0 defeat at Tooting Bec.
Carshalton will now be looking to bounce back as they continue their push for the title.
Team News
For the Capital Intermediate Cup defeat at Tooting Bec, manager Aaron Lamont rotated his side, making six changes to the team that beat Sutton in the Surrey Divisional Cup. With the league the main priority, Lamont is expected to field his strongest lineup on Sunday and will hope to have a full squad available as the Robins look to claim another three points.
Head to Head
The sides met in pre-season, with Carshalton running out 6 – 1 winners thanks to goals from Ward, Gueriani, a youth player, and a hat-trick from Taylor McCrea. Chessington did cause problems at times, equalising early in the second half to make it 1 – 1, before the Robins pulled away. Given that the friendly was one of Chessington’s first matches together, they are likely to pose a greater threat this time around.
Pre-Match Analysis
With Carshalton top of the table and Chessington sitting fourth, Sunday’s fixture is expected to be competitive. Although the Robins won in pre-season, the hosts have now had time to gel and will present a tougher challenge.
In a title race as tight as this, Carshalton cannot afford to slip up. Dropped points would hand the initiative to Sutton United Reserves and Dorking Wanderers U23. However, with both rivals not in league action this weekend, the Robins have an ideal opportunity to extend their lead – and could move six points clear with a victory.
