Robins Battle Back Against Ramsgate

Following a rollercoaster encounter at Southwood Stadium, Carshalton Athletic and Ramsgate each left with a point after playing out a dramatic 2–2 draw.

There was a major boost in the Carshalton camp, with Fabio Saraiva making his first competitive start of the season following his injury layoff.

The Robins started brightly and created the first chance of the game in the ninth minute. Saraiva tried his luck from distance, but his effort drifted just past the post.

Carshalton came close again on 16 minutes. Tolu Ladapo broke through down the right and fired low towards goal,

but Ramsgate keeper Prall tipped the shot onto the post and behind for a corner. From the resulting set piece, Saraiva picked out Luke Read at the back post, but his header was straight at Prall.

After a strong start, the Robins took a deserved lead in the 37th minute. Saraiva struck from range, and his shot took a crucial touch off Kola Salami, wrong-footing Prall and nestling into the back of the net.

Ramsgate grew into the game and almost levelled before the break. Henry Lukombo delivered a pinpoint cross from the right to find Joe Taylor, but his header was straight at Matt Kerbey. Carshalton then had one final chance of the half, with Lucas Dyer forcing Prall into another good save from a low effort.

The Robins went into the interval with a deserved 1–0 lead, but Ramsgate came out stronger after the restart. The hosts dominated the second half and found their equaliser on 65 minutes. Alfie Paxman whipped in a fine cross, and captain TJ Jadama rose highest to power a header past Kerbey.

Ramsgate continued to press and almost went ahead when Joe Taylor’s effort beat Kerbey, only for Laurence Ernest to make a vital block. Just a minute later, however, the hosts did take the lead. Taylor held off his marker and calmly slotted home to make it 2–1.

With Ramsgate in control, Carshalton looked deflated, and it seemed the Robins might leave empty-handed. Manager Peter Adeniyi introduced Smith, Saunders Henry, and Sankoh in search of an equaliser – and it paid off in the 89th minute. Saraiva delivered a corner from the right, and Smith’s header crept in at the near post after a deflection off a defender to bring the Robins level.

Both sides pushed for a late winner, but the referee’s whistle signalled full time, and the points were shared.

For the Robins, attention now turns to Saturday’s Isthmian League clash with Potters Bar Town at Colston Avenue.
