Robins Beat Oxted & District
Carshalton Athletic put in an impressive performance on Sunday afternoon, running out 10–0 winners against Oxted & District to keep themselves in the hunt for the Surrey Premier Division title.
Manager Aaron Lamont made two changes from the side that beat Sutton United Reserves 2–0 last time out. Kenza Gueriani and Maisie Ward returned to the starting XI in place of Demi Allen, who dropped to the bench, while Abigail Claringbold missed out.
The game got underway with the Robins starting the brighter of the two sides.
Carshalton went close to opening the scoring after 14 minutes when a diagonal ball was lifted into the penalty area. It reached Dulley at the back post, but she was unable to divert it into the net. A few minutes later, another delivery into the box found Remi Gardner, but she fired her effort wide.
Oxted & District created their first chance in the 24th minute when Kayleigh Stenning broke away and fired a shot at goal, but Beth Yarrow did well to get down and push the effort away.
At the other end, Carshalton continued probing for an opener. Honey Dulley and Xaidan Gooding linked up well, with Dulley setting the ball back to Gooding outside the box, but the midfielder fired her effort over the crossbar.
Carshalton found the breakthrough on 30 minutes. Gooding played a brilliant through ball to Underhill on the left-hand side. Underhill drove towards goal, cut inside onto her right foot, and curled the ball over Kat Brown and into the back of the net to make it 1–0.
That goal provided the momentum Carshalton needed, and they doubled their lead just two minutes later. Gooding was again involved, playing a fantastic through ball to Honey Dulley, who composed herself before smashing her effort into the roof of the net to make it 2–0.
The Robins were now firmly in control and pushed to extend their lead further. On 35 minutes, Leanne Bell and Remi Gardner combined well, giving Gardner space and time to shoot, but her low, curling effort was held by Kat Brown. Bell then had a chance herself a few minutes later after receiving the ball on the edge of the box, but her effort flew just over the crossbar.
That miss did not dampen Bell’s spirits, and she made it 3–0 on 42 minutes. After an earlier attempt from distance missed the target, this time she struck from 25 yards and found the back of the net, catching Kat Brown slightly off her line.
Honey Dulley then went close to making it 4–0 just before the break after latching onto a ball over the top, but Brown reacted quickly, rushing out to narrow the angle and push the effort away for a corner.
The half-time whistle blew, and manager Aaron Lamont would have been pleased with his side’s performance, particularly their intent to keep pushing forward after opening the scoring.
The second half began with Oxted creating the first opportunity to pull a goal back. In the 52nd minute, Kayleigh Stenning was played through on goal and struck a low effort, but Beth Yarrow was equal to it, getting down to push it away. The rebound fell back to Stenning, who went for goal again, but Georgie Edwards recovered well to block the effort behind for a corner.
Carshalton extended their lead on 54 minutes. They won a corner on the left-hand side, taken by Bianca Underhill. Her inswinging delivery caused problems for the Oxted defence and flew straight into the net to make it 4–0.
It would have been easy for the Robins to take their foot off the gas, but instead they continued to press forward and added another goal on 61 minutes. Leanne Bell, full of confidence after her earlier strike, unleashed another effort from 25 yards. It was both powerful and accurate, flying into the top corner for her second goal of the game and making it 5–0.
Five minutes later, Carshalton scored again. Xaidan Gooding played a clever through ball to substitute Taylor McCrea, who looked to shoot, but before she could, the ball ricocheted off an Oxted defender and rolled into the net to make it 6–0.
With the game effectively wrapped up, Carshalton turned to their bench and introduced two young prospects, Hallie Dudley and Laney Garcia, who have starred for the U16s this season. Dudley made an instant impact, scoring Carshalton’s seventh goal. In the 72nd minute, Demi Allen delivered a ball into the box from the right-hand side, finding Dudley at the far post, and she turned it home with one of her first touches to make it 7–0.
Not content with just one goal, Dudley added her second five minutes later. A pinpoint through ball found her in space, and she calmly guided the ball past the onrushing Kat Brown to make it 8–0.
Carshalton were not finished there and added two more goals before the end. Two substitutes combined, with Suzanne Davies slipping the ball through to Taylor McCrea, who slotted home. Brown got a hand to the effort, but it was not enough to keep it out, and Carshalton had their ninth.
The final goal came in the 88th minute. Carshalton won a corner on the right-hand side, with Underhill delivering into the penalty area. The ball found captain Georgie Edwards, who turned it home first time to make it 10–0.
The referee blew for full time, confirming a 10–0 victory for Carshalton – the fourth time this season the Robins have hit double figures, following wins against Manorcroft United (16–2), Walton & Hersham (14–0), and South Park Reigate (13–0).
Carshalton remain second with this result, now six points behind Dorking Wanderers U23s, while still holding a game in hand.
Attention now turns to Sunday 26th April, when the Robins travel to face Chessington & Hook United.
