Robins Draw At Wingate

Carshalton conceded a stoppage-time equaliser at Wingate & Finchley as both sides were forced to settle for a point.

Manager Peter Adeniyi made five changes to his lineup from last week’s defeat to Cray Valley PM. Smith, Dyer, Ming and Ladapo all came into the side, along with debutant goalkeeper Alexander Walder, who replaced the suspended Matt Kerbey.

The game began evenly, but the hosts struck first in the 8th minute. Ayyuba Jambang collected the ball on the right-hand side and fired a powerful effort into the bottom corner, leaving Walder with no chance.

The Robins grew into the game after the setback, playing some neat passing football. Ifeanyi, as usual,

caused problems down the left, and Carshalton enjoyed plenty of possession without truly testing Grainger in the Wingate goal. The hosts also had their moments, with Walder racing off his line to produce an excellent one-on-one save to keep it at 1–0.

Carshalton equalised on 42 minutes. After winning a free kick on the left, captain Tommy Bradford stepped up and delivered a superb cross. His ball found Ladapo, whose header towards goal was tapped in by the alert Bryan Ifeanyi,

giving the Robins a deserved leveller.

It got even better four minutes later. Noah Nzuzi carried the ball down the left and delivered a dangerous cross into the box. Under pressure from Ladapo and Smith, a Wingate defender turned the ball into his own net, sending Carshalton into half time with a 2–1 lead.

Despite being ahead, the Robins continued to push forward after the break. Bryan Ifeanyi tested Grainger with a shot from outside the box that bounced awkwardly, forcing the goalkeeper to parry. Carshalton attempted to follow up with a rebound, but the flag was up for offside.

Wingate & Finchley threatened as well. Substitute Alfie Cue struck an effort from distance, but Walder was well positioned to save. Cue was involved again soon after, but his next attempt was deflected behind for a corner.

As time ticked away, Carshalton pushed to kill off the game. Substitute Kola Salami did well to create space in the box but saw his tight-angle effort saved. He then had another chance on 90 minutes but fired over the bar.

Deep into stoppage time, Wingate found their equaliser. A cross from the left reached Alfie Cue unmarked at the back post, and the substitute volleyed home to snatch a point for his side. Minutes later, the referee blew for full time.

The Robins now have two weeks until their next match – a trip to Billericay, their final game before Christmas.
