Robins Fly High Against Walton & Hersham

On a cold afternoon at Colston Avenue, Carshalton put in another commanding performance, with an impressive victory over Walton & Hersham.

The match began brightly for the Robins, who created the first opportunity in the 7th minute. Heather Eade was played through on goal, but Walton & Hersham goalkeeper Jessica Gurlis rushed out well to close the angle and made a smart save. Moments later, Eade again found herself in a promising position but couldn’t find the target.

Carshalton continued to press forward, and Gueriani had a chance on nine minutes, her shot from the left-hand side well saved by Gurlis. Shortly after, Dee Badley played a neat ball through to Eade, but her effort drifted just wide.

Walton & Hersham then carved out their first opportunity of the game, but Carshalton goalkeeper Beth Yarrow was equal to it, tipping the effort wide for a corner.

The Robins, however, were on top in the early stages and almost took the lead on 19 minutes when Badley whipped in a dangerous cross from the right. The ball struck Eade but was again kept out by Gurlis.

Carshalton finally broke the deadlock on 25 minutes. Becky Sargent found space

in the box and calmly slotted the ball into the corner to give the Robins a deserved lead. Just two minutes later, they doubled their advantage – Amelia Kimble’s pinpoint corner from the right found Sargent unmarked, and she headed home her second of the game.

Badley made it 3–0 on the half-hour mark, using her pace to round the goalkeeper and tap into an empty net.

Carshalton weren’t content to sit back and quickly added a fourth just three minutes later, Badley grabbing her second with a composed finish.

After several earlier chances, Eade finally got on the scoresheet in the 36th minute. A flowing passing move found her on the left, and she made no mistake, firing confidently into the net.

With half-time approaching, Carshalton struck again – Badley completing her hat-trick. Eade’s initial effort was saved, but the rebound fell kindly for Badley, who found the net from a tight angle.

Just before the break, Carshalton made it seven. From a corner, the ball dropped to captain Georgie Edwards, who powered a header home. The referee blew for half-time shortly after, with the Robins firmly in control.

The second half began much as the first had ended, with Carshalton on top. Sargent completed her hat-trick early on, reacting quickest to a loose ball in the box.

On 59 minutes, Eade was played through again and fired a powerful strike into the bottom corner for her second of the game.

Manager Aaron Lamont then made four changes, introducing Nebbitt, McCrea, Underhill, and Ward to freshen things up. The substitutions had an immediate impact – Underhill broke down the right and delivered a fine cross for McCrea, who took a touch before finishing smartly.

Underhill continued to cause problems down the right flank, using her pace to create space before crossing for Kimble to slot home.

Despite the scoreline, Walton & Hersham continued to push forward, and had a few chances to pull one back. Yarrow was called into action several times, and Evie Nebbitt produced an excellent last-ditch block.

With ten minutes remaining, Eade completed her hat-trick, firing the ball into the roof of the net. Three minutes later, McCrea found herself in space and fired in her second of the game, the ball going in off the post. Near the end, McCrea completed her hat-trick with a powerful strike that Gurlis got a hand to but couldn’t keep out.

The referee soon called time on the contest, as the Robins ran out 14–0 winners.

Attention now turns to next Sunday, when Carshalton face a tricky away trip to newly promoted Oxted & District in another Surrey Premier Division fixture.
