Robins Pass Test Against Scholars

Carshalton returned to winning ways with a 2–0 victory over Potters Bar Town at Colston Avenue.

After last week’s draw at Ramsgate, manager Peter Adeniyi made two changes to his line-up, with Renedi Masampu and Noah Nzuzi coming into the starting XI.

After a slow start, Carshalton created the first real chance on 20 minutes when Kola Salami was played through and drove into the box. However, the forward fired his effort high and wide.

Just three minutes later, Noah Nzuzi went close after a mazy run into the box, beating several defenders before dragging his shot just wide of the far post.

Although Carshalton were on top, it was the visitors who briefly thought they had taken the lead two minutes later. A corner from the right was met by Oduwa, who headed home, but the referee ruled the goal out for a foul on Matt Kerbey.

The Robins continued to push forward, frequently playing balls in behind for their forwards to chase. Oduwa was booked for a foul as Carshalton kept the pressure on, and Nzuzi went close again on 33 minutes, heading just over from a good cross.

Carshalton’s best chance of the half came on 35 minutes. Shonibare combined well in a one-two before holding off his marker and delivering a powerful cross into the box. Salami met it, but could only divert the ball onto the crossbar, allowing Potters Bar to clear.

The referee’s whistle brought an end to the first half with the Robins on top but still searching for the breakthrough.

Carshalton started the second half strongly, creating the first good chance on 60 minutes when Ifeanyi made a driving run down the left. He cut the ball back to Saraiva, who shot just wide.

The turning point came on 67 minutes as Potters Bar were reduced to ten men. Salami broke free and was brought down just outside the box by Oduwa, who was the last man. Having already been booked, the defender received a second yellow card and was sent off.

From the resulting free kick, the Robins took the lead. Saraiva’s strike was blocked by Luke Read, but the Carshalton stalwart reacted quickest, following up to place the ball neatly into the corner.

With the visitors down to ten and chasing the game, gaps began to appear in the Scholars’ defence. With ten minutes remaining, Bryan Ifeanyi saw his effort blocked by Ronnie Henry after a good passing move, before Luke Read struck the post moments later.

As time ticked away, Carshalton pressed to seal the win. Ifeanyi again went close, his low effort hitting the inside of the post and bouncing clear.

Manager Peter Adeniyi made several substitutions, introducing Saunders-Henry, Bradford, and Smith. The changes paid off, as Carshalton doubled their lead on 90 minutes. After winning the ball back, the Robins broke forward with a slick passing move. Substitute Mason Saunders-Henry squared the ball across for Luke Read,

who tapped home into an empty net to calm the nerves of the Robins faithful.

Moments later, the referee blew for full time, confirming a vital three points for Carshalton, who move up to ninth in the table.

Attention now turns to Saturday, as the Robins travel to Essex to face Canvey Island.
