Following Saturday’s 2–2 draw with Dartford, it’s a quick turnaround for the Robins as they travel to Dulwich Hamlet for another crucial Isthmian League fixture.
Carshalton Athletic
Carshalton Athletic are currently on a five-game unbeaten run, which began with a 3–1 victory over bottom side Canvey Island.
The Robins fell behind early when Mike Finneran headed home from a free-kick, but Carshalton levelled in the 26th minute as Bryan Ifeanyi converted a penalty following a handball in the area. The visitors were reduced to 10 men in the 51st minute when Luke O’Neill brought down debutant Nathan Young-Coombes as the last man. The numerical advantage allowed Carshalton to control the remainder of the game, and goals from substitutes Tolu Ladapo and Charlie George secured a vital three points.
After waiting nearly four months for that win, the Robins made it back-to-back victories with a 1–0 win at Cheshunt, where Nathan Young-Coombes’ 74th-minute strike proved decisive in a tight encounter.
Steven Bates’ side then extended their run to three consecutive wins with a 4–1 home victory over Wingate & Finchley. Young-Coombes opened the scoring in the third minute, before Denzel Akyeampong doubled the lead after 19 minutes. Leading 2–0 at half-time, Carshalton made a fast start to the second half, going 3–0 up through Fabio Saraiva. Wingate pulled one back through Romeo Akinola, but Tolu Ladapo’s late penalty sealed a convincing win.
Carshalton made it 10 points from four games in March with a 3–3 draw away at league leaders Folkestone. The hosts took the lead through Ben Mason, but the Robins responded with three first-half goals from Ryan Huke, Tolu Ladapo and Nathan Young-Coombes.
Folkestone improved significantly after the break and struck back through Liam Smith and Ryan Kingsford. Carshalton were forced to withstand a late onslaught but held on for what could prove to be a crucial point in the battle for survival.
Last time out, Carshalton hosted play-off chasing Dartford and led at half-time after Ryan Huke scored in the 38th minute. Dartford turned the game around to lead 2–1 through Sam Odaudu and Rohan Vaughan. The Robins looked set to leave empty-handed, but in stoppage time, Denzel Akyeampong’s cross was headed home by Fabio Saraiva to secure a 2–2 draw.
Those results lifted Carshalton out of the relegation zone, although the job is not yet done. Welling United and Hashtag United sit two points behind, with Cray Valley three points back. Hashtag United’s shock announcement of voluntary relegation could boost Carshalton’s survival hopes if the FA places them bottom of the league.
Carshalton have just four games remaining, and the fixtures look challenging on paper: trips to Aveley (2nd) and Dulwich (11th), alongside home matches against Brentwood (5th) and St Albans (10th). There are no easy games in the Isthmian Premier Division, and Steven Bates will be aiming to collect as many points as possible to avoid a bottom-four finish.
Dulwich Hamlet
Dulwich Hamlet Football Club was formed in 1893, when local organiser Lorraine “Pa” Wilson helped establish a team for young players in the Dulwich area of South London. The club soon became part of the developing amateur game, joining the Dulwich League before becoming a founding member of the Isthmian League in 1907.
Over the following decades, Dulwich established itself as one of England’s leading amateur sides, winning multiple Isthmian League titles and FA Amateur Cups, while Champion Hill became its long-term home. This strong foundation helped shape a club identity rooted in tradition, community and competitive football.
In the modern era, Dulwich’s journey has continued to define its character. While much of the late 20th and early 21st centuries was spent within the Isthmian League system, the club maintained strong local support. Its distinctive pink and blue colours, coupled with a growing reputation for inclusivity and community engagement, brought wider attention as attendances rose.
A major turning point came during the 2017–18 season, when Dulwich Hamlet won the Isthmian League Premier Division play-offs to secure promotion to the National League South – the highest level in the club’s history. The achievement brought higher-level football to Champion Hill, along with record crowds and increased national exposure.
Dulwich spent five seasons at Step 2, competing against larger and more financially powerful clubs. Although survival was often hard-fought, the period represented ambition and growth both on and off the pitch. Relegation back to the Isthmian League Premier Division in 2022–23 ended that spell, but much of the progress made during those years has been retained.
Alongside first-team developments, the club has continued to expand its community role, including the growth of the women’s team, increased youth involvement and strong supporter engagement. Today, Dulwich Hamlet remains one of non-league football’s most recognisable clubs.
Last season proved challenging, with Dulwich finishing 18th, just five points clear of relegation. This campaign has shown improvement, with the Hamlet currently sitting 11th after 38 games, with no danger of relegation this season.
Head to Head
The sides met on Boxing Day last season at Champion Hill. In front of a crowd of 2,883, Kreshnic Krasniqi scored from a corner after 10 minutes to give Dulwich the lead. The Robins pushed for an equaliser but were unable to find one, with the hosts running out 1–0 winners.
The teams met again on Easter Monday, the penultimate league fixture of the season. With Dulwich already mathematically safe and Carshalton looking to build momentum ahead of a Surrey Senior Cup semi-final, the Robins produced a dominant display.
Goals from Fabio Saraiva and David Smith (2) gave Carshalton a 3–0 half-time lead, with Smith narrowly missing the chance to complete a first-half hat-trick from the penalty spot. Dylan Pepple added a stunning fourth from distance before Saunders-Henry made it five late on. Goalkeeper Mackenzie Foley was even introduced as an outfield player following an injury to Michael Dada, before David Bremang scored a late consolation in stoppage time as Carshalton ran out emphatic 5–1 winners.
This season, the sides met in the final game of 2025 at Colston Avenue. The Robins took the lead after 32 minutes through Kola Salami, but Dulwich equalised in first-half stoppage time through Amadou Kassarate. Both sides pushed for a winner in the second half, and Carshalton thought they had it when Noah Nzuzi scored in stoppage time, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside. The match ended 1–1.

After making just one change for the trip to Folkestone and one further adjustment against Dartford, Steven Bates appears to have settled on a consistent starting XI. However, with only 48 hours between the Dartford and Dulwich fixtures, rotation is likely, particularly if there are any fitness concerns.
Two new signings were also announced this week. Defender Moussa Diarra has joined on dual registration from Wealdstone, while former Millwall forward Kavalli Heywood has also signed. Neither featured against Dartford, but both could be included in the squad for this match.

The Robins are in strong form, unbeaten in their last five matches, with three wins (Canvey Island, Cheshunt, Wingate & Finchley) and two draws (Folkestone Invicta, Dartford).
Dulwich sit 11th, with neither relegation concerns nor realistic play-off ambitions. While having little to play for could work in Carshalton’s favour, it may also allow Dulwich to play with freedom and entertain what is expected to be a large crowd at Champion Hill.
Key Player
In January, Carshalton striker David Smith made the switch to Isthmian League rivals Dulwich Hamlet.
After joining Carshalton in November 2024, Smith quickly became a fan favourite thanks to his goalscoring ability and knack for delivering in key moments. The 26-year-old made an immediate impact, scoring the winner on his debut in a dramatic 2–1 victory over Folkestone Invicta.
Over the 2024/25 campaign, Smith scored 18 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions, many of them coming at crucial times. He netted match-winning goals against Hashtag United and Canvey Island, underlining his importance to the side.
His final goal for the club came in dramatic fashion this season, heading home a Fabio Saraiva corner in the 89th minute to secure a 2–2 draw away at Ramsgate.
Since moving from SM5 to SE22, Smith has continued his strong form. He scored on his debut in a 3–1 win at Potters Bar Town, followed by a brace in a 2–0 victory at Brentwood Town. He then added his fourth and fifth goals in a 4–1 home win against Potters Bar Town last weekend.
In front of what is expected to be a large crowd at Champion Hill, Smith will be eager to add to his tally, with extra motivation against his former club.
The Gaffer
Mark Dacey was appointed manager of Dulwich Hamlet on 5th May 2025, ushering in a new chapter as the club looked to rebuild and regain momentum.
Dacey’s connection with Dulwich predates his appointment. The club had tracked him for some time, recalling his earlier involvement at Champion Hill and his work under figures such as Gavin Rose and Junior Kadi. This background gave the board confidence in his understanding of the club’s culture and values.
Before taking charge, Dacey built his managerial reputation at several non-league clubs, including Sevenoaks Town and SE Dons. His most notable spell came at Rayners Lane, where his side achieved impressive results despite challenging circumstances, playing attacking football, scoring freely and winning the Middlesex FA Cup.
Selected from a field of more than 50 applicants, Dacey impressed the board with his vision and desire to reconnect the club with its identity. Upon his appointment, he spoke of being “beyond honoured” and outlined his aim to restore “spark and excitement” while strengthening the bond between team and community.
Dacey began the 2025–26 season with renewed momentum, further strengthening his backroom staff in June with the appointment of Junior James as assistant manager. Early signs suggest a renewed emphasis on attacking football and growing confidence within the squad as Dulwich look to climb the Isthmian League table.
