CAFC vs Lewes – Preview
Following a hard-fought 2–2 draw against Canvey Island, the Robins are back on the road, travelling to Sussex to take on Lewes.
Carshalton Athletic
The Robins are now four league games unbeaten, following draws against Hashtag United, Ramsgate, and Canvey Island, along with a win over Potters Bar. The challenge for Peter Adeniyi’s side now is to turn those draws into victories as Carshalton look to climb further up the table.
Lewes
Lewes have had a mixed start to the season and currently sit 8th, with a record of six wins, three draws, and six defeats. The Rooks began the campaign brightly, winning four of their first five matches – including a 2–1 victory at Colston Avenue.
However, after going two months without a win and suffering a 6–0 defeat at Folkestone Invicta, manager Bradley Pritchard was relieved of his duties. Craig Nelson was subsequently reappointed, returning to the club after leaving at the end of the 2024/25 season.
Since Nelson’s return, Lewes appear to have turned a corner, picking up seven points from his first three games. The Rooks will be looking to continue that good run of form when they welcome the Robins to the Dripping Pan.
Team News
For the first time this season, manager Peter Adeniyi named an unchanged starting XI against Canvey Island, and the team impressed in both that game and the previous win over Potters Bar. With a quick turnaround before Tuesday night’s fixture, Adeniyi may be forced into making changes, but finding a settled lineup can only benefit the Robins as they look to build momentum.
Head to Head
The Robins’ last visit to the Dripping Pan came on Good Friday last season. The Rooks took the lead on 37 minutes through Shae Hutchinson and held that advantage at the break. However, the Robins came out firing in the second half – Nabeel Ghannam equalised with a deflected effort before goals from Ifeanyi and Bradford sealed a 3–1 win.
Lewes got their revenge earlier this season at Colston Avenue. The visitors went ahead inside two minutes through Devonte West, but Bryan Ifeanyi equalised on 22 minutes with a brilliant solo goal. However, Jack Burchell struck the winner for Lewes to secure all three points.
Pre-Match Analysis
With Lewes in good form since the return of Craig Nelson and Carshalton beginning to find consistency themselves, Tuesday’s clash promises to be an intriguing contest.
Carshalton have a strong recent record at the Dripping Pan, winning their last two visits, although Lewes took all three points at Colston Avenue earlier this season. Among the Lewes ranks are two familiar faces – Parish Muirhead and Olly Hamstead – who recently joined the Rooks after leaving Colston Avenue and will be eager to make an impact against their former club.
The Dripping Pan remains one of the most popular grounds in the Isthmian League, so a large contingent of Robins supporters is expected to make the trip down the A23 for this one.
Key Player
After departing Colston Avenue, midfielder Parish Muirhead rejoined Lewes, returning to the club he left at the end of the 2024/25 season to link up once again with manager Craig Nelson. The 24-year-old impressed for the Rooks last season and earned an international call-up for Grenada, making five appearances so far. Muirhead scored his first goal since returning to Sussex in Saturday’s match against Brentwood and will have a point to prove against his former side.
The Gaffer
Lewes began the season under former Carshalton midfielder Bradley Pritchard, making a strong start by collecting 12 points from their first five matches. However, a poor run of form saw Pritchard dismissed, with ex-manager Craig Nelson returning to the helm after a brief spell with Tonbridge Angels.
During his previous spell at Lewes in 2024/25, Nelson’s side started quickly – winning their first five matches – before eventually finishing 13th. His reappointment has been a popular decision among supporters, and he’ll be looking to steady the ship and guide the Rooks back up the table.
